Diacylglycerols (DAG) play a key role in transient receptor potential (TRP) channels. TRP channels are linked to a wide variety of biological processes including the body"s ability to sense and process pain, temperature, tastes, pressure, and vision. 18:0 PhoDAG is embedded with a photoswitchable azobenzene moiety that allows rapid photoactivation of these DAG-sensitive TRP channels. The photoswitchable DAG allows for the further exploration of the physiological relevance of these TRP channels in the body’s homeostasis process.
